Sametime Standard 8.5 Linux

I logged in as root on a rather fresh RHEL 5.4 installation with Domino 8.5.1 installed. ran launchpad.sh. Chose to install the installation manager and DB2, just like it says in the documentation Let it install. Rebooted. Now when I try to login I get all kinds of errors:
"An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for Nautilus. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly"

Basically my root user's desktop has been demolished by the db2 installation. Other users can still install properly. Apparently I should not follow the documentation here and create a separate user to install the Installation manager and db2 under, but this is a serious bug in the installation. Did anyone else experience this and if so, how did you solve it?
